There is no sugar/calories so you can customise and adapt your
hydration to your own physiological makeup and the changing conditions
you train and compete in.
Although there is chloride lost in sweat the Shotz Electrolyte Tablet
does not contain chloride. The taste profile with the inclusion of
chloride makes it difficult to consume, especially in hot conditions
when the need for fluid is high. The composition of sweat is made up
primarily of sodium and chloride and each athlete will having varying
levels of these two main electrolytes that are lost through sweat. In
short, the formula for sodium chloride is NaCl, which is one to one, the
difference being that chloride has a greater molecular weight than
sodium, 1mmol of chloride is equivalent to 35mg and 1mmol of sodium is
equivalent to 23mg. Our testing on the electrolyte composition of sweat
shows that sodium loss in sweat is generally higher than chloride so the
percentage of loss for sodium is quite a lot more than chloride.
Minimising percentage of loss is the key to a sound hydration
strategy and given the importance of palatability and ease of
consumption chloride was not included in the formulation.
